課程概述 |
We will study legal and business implications of intellectual property (IP) and their various policy dimensions. Students are required to study the assigned IP business case before each class. Students can buy these cases from the course pack link customized for this course. They are expected to participate actively in class. We will cover issues such as patent business model, trade secret protection, trademark and branding strategy, digital copyright, etc. |
課程目標 |
The course will adopt a contextual approach placing the study of intellectual property (IP) within real business cases. Students will gain a critical understanding of different categories of IP, including patents, copyright, trademarks, and trade secrets. We will focus on the legal, business, and economic implications of IP. Student will learn various business aspects of IP, such as IP-based business models, IP settlement and IPO, IP and government-business relationship, IP and corporate images, etc. Students will develop their problem-solving, legal research, and writing skills. Through reading, discussions, and the written project, this course should help students recognize the economic, business, political, and technological dimensions of IP. There is no pre-requisite for this course. Background in IP laws is not necessary, although it may occasionally help you understand the subject. |
